UW and Vinted are joining forces!

Yes you read it right, United Wardrobe and Vinted are joining forces to make secondhand fashion first choice worldwide.  This means that from today, October 27th, you can move your United Wardrobe account over to Vinted. This includes your items, profile, favourites, reviews, followers and followings.

By moving to Vinted, you will benefit from:

  • A bigger international community, so higher chances to sell more items even faster. You can also explore millions of great items coming from 5 different countries.

So, ready to continue your journey at Vinted? For this, you will need to:

  • give us your consent to move your United Wardrobe information to your Vinted account.  
  • use the same email address on United Wardrobe and on Vinted so we can easily move your UW information to the right Vinted account.

If you are in Germany, this new Vinted adventure awaits you too in November, but you will not be able to take your UW account information with you. 😔 To continue your second hand fashion journey, simply create a Vinted account at the beginning of November.

1. All right, I am ready to move to Vinted! 

1.1  I don't have a Vinted account, how to move my info? 

Easy! Click on the "Move my account" button in one of the many places on the United Wardrobe platform and we will take you through the steps. By giving consent, you agree to have your UW information moved to Vinted. This includes your profile, your closet, reviews, followers and followings, as well as  your favorite items

You will then be prompted to set up your new Vinted account. Please ensure you keep the same email address as the one on United Wardrobe otherwise we will not be able to transfer your UW information across. Once you have created your Vinted account and your email is verified, we will automatically start moving the information from your United Wardrobe account over to Vinted.

Your information has been successfully moved? Then you are good to go! Happy selling and shopping on Vinted.

Before you start moving your account, make sure you still have access to your email address. A verification email will be sent to this address upon creating your Vinted account. The move cannot happen without access to your email address.

1.2  I already have an active Vinted account, do I need to do anything?

That's great! Then you already know about Vinted. Wouldn't it be even better to have all your items, reviews, followers, followings and favorites in the same place? When you already have an active Vinted account, we can easily merge all your United Wardrobe information into that account!

  • Your Vinted account is linked to the same email address as your United Wardrobe account, you only need to consent to the information transfer. We will automatically transfer all the relevant UW information to your Vinted account.
  • Your Vinted account is linked to a different email from your United Wardrobe account, you can change the email in your UW settings before you consent. Make sure both email addresses are the same so we can easily transfer your UW information and have you up and running as soon as possible!

1.3  I have a Vinted account but I never used it, what happens then?

Just look up the email on your Vinted account and make sure it matches the one on United Wardrobe so we can later transfer your information across, then click on the "Move my account" button and follow the instructions. If your Vinted email address is different from the one on United Wardrobe, you will need to update it on either Vinted or UW first. Otherwise we will not be able to combine the accounts.

Before you start moving your account, make sure you still have access to your email address. A verification email will be sent to this address upon creating your Vinted account. The move cannot happen without access to your email address.

1.4  My United Wardrobe account is blocked, can I move to Vinted?

If your account has been blocked, you will not be able to move your United Wardrobe information to Vinted. If you would like to have your UW information moved to Vinted, you will need to first check that your closet is in line with Vinted catalogue rules, then contact our UW support team. We will see if your United Wardrobe account can be unblocked.

1.5  I gave consent in the UW app, now what?

As soon as you have given your consent and your Vinted account is verified, your United Wardrobe information will start being moved over to Vinted. You will be notified when this is done. Keep in mind though that this can take a few minutes, and sometimes a bit longer if a lot of people are moving their info at the same time.

While the transfer is in progress, you can use your Vinted account to sell, buy, favourite items, and follow Vinted members. You will no longer be able to sell or buy on United Wardrobe once you give your consent but you can still manage your active orders.

2. What happens to my data?

2.1  What information is moved to Vinted?

When clicking on "Move my account",  you consent to have your United Wardrobe data transferred to Vinted. This will include:

  • Your name, date of birth, gender, email address and profile picture,
  • The active and expired items (image, title, description) from your UW closet (they will however be listed as drafts in Vinted. Just add the missing information, publish them and they're ready to be sold!),
  • Your list of followers, and followings
  • review ratings & details (these will be listed as "anonymous" until the user who wrote the review moved to Vinted too)
  • Your list of favorite items.

However, we will not move the following:

  • Your cover photo,
  • Your username (you will need to set up a new one),
  • Your preferences such as saved searches, clothing & shoe sizes, 
  • The ID verification information (you will unfortunately need to do it again),
  • Your password, 
  • Your orders.

But don't worry, we have made sure that your information is safely handled throughout the transfer. If you want to know more about how Vinted protects your data once moved to their platform, you can check their privacy policy or contact their data protection officer at dpo@vinted.fr

2.2  Why are United Wardrobe and Vinted Joint controllers of my data? 

In order to ensure a smooth migration and transfer from the United Wardrobe Platform to the Vinted platform, both Vinted and United Wardrobe will gain access to certain personal data, the handling of which will fall within United Wardrobe’s and Vinted's joint responsibility.

Therefore, from 27 October 2020 until the end of migration or until ultimately 27 October 2021, whichever comes first, United Wardrobe and Vinted will act as joint controllers. During this period users of the United Wardrobe Platform will be given the possibility to migrate their United Wardrobe account data to the Vinted Platform. In this respect, United Wardrobe and Vinted are joint controllers and entered into a joint controller agreement to facilitate the migration from the United Wardrobe platform to the Vinted platform.

What is United Wardrobe responsible for?

All ongoing transactions (both sales and purchases) will be completed on United Wardrobe's platform. After December 22, 2020 the UW platform will go offline. During the migration period from October 27, 2020 until ultimately October 27, 2021 United Wardrobe will be responsible for the transfer of your user information from United Wardrobe to Vinted.

What is Vinted responsible for?

All new transactions (both sales and purchases) will be made on the Vinted platform. During and after the migration period Vinted will be responsible for retrieving your personal information which has been transferred by United Wardrobe.

2.3. Who should I contact if I want to know more about how my data is handled? 

If you have questions regarding the way your data is processed or if you want to exercise your rights as a data subject you may contact both United Wardrobe (via the contact form below) or Vinted. We will make sure you can exercise your data subject rights in an effective way.

2.4  Until when can I give my consent and move my account? 

United Wardrobe and Vinted becoming one large secondhand fashion platform means that our United Wardrobe platform will close on December 22, 2020. You therefore have until December 22 to give your consent. You will also need to create and verify your Vinted account before that date. 

2.5  What happens if I do not give consent to move my information?

If you have not given your consent to the transfer before December 22, United Wardrobe will only transfer your email address to Vinted on December 22. That way, if you create a Vinted account in the future, you will still be able to move your UW information across. In order to be able to provide you with this option (post closure of the United Wardrobe platform), your UW information will be kept on the United Wardrobe platform until the end of migration of the United Wardrobe platform or until ultimately 27 October 2021, whichever comes first. After this, your data at the United Wardrobe Platform will be deleted.

Remember that you will need to have a Vinted account with the same email address as on United Wardrobe before your UW information can actually be moved across.

If you do not want your email address to be transferred to Vinted, you can opt out by deleting your United Wardrobe account before December 22. This can be done via the "Settings" page on the website. By deleting your account, your email address will not be transferred to Vinted on/after December 22 and all your UW account data will be deleted from the UW platform on/after December 22,2020. 

2.6  Why does UW transfer my email address to Vinted on December 22, 2020 if I do not consent?

As a company, United Wardrobe aims to keep offering you the best services. In order to do so in a constantly changing and globalising world, we may merge or be taken over by a company such as Vinted who has similar services but is able to offer them on a bigger platform. By joining forces with Vinted we want to provide you with all the benefits resulting from this. Which is why we transfer your email address to Vinted on December 22, 2020: to enable you to have your UW information easily transferred to Vinted (even though you may have missed the deadline).

We of course do this in a way in which we respect your privacy. Your information will always be handled in a safe way. If you do not want your email address to be transferred to Vinted, you can opt out by clicking here or deleting your United Wardrobe account before December 22. This can be done via the "Settings" page on the website.  

2.7  What happens to my UW orders and data when I transfer to Vinted?

Don't worry, we (UW) will continue to look after them! The United Wardrobe platform will stay open until all orders are finalised, so you will still be able to ship, track and complete your orders, as well as use the private chats with your sellers/buyers. 

The same goes for your user data. After your information is transferred to Vinted, United Wardrobe will keep your data to complete all ongoing orders. Your data will be saved by United Wardrobe until December 22, 2020, after this date the United Wardrobe platform will be shut down and your data will be deleted by United Wardrobe if you have already transferred to Vinted. Otherwise, all of your data will be deleted after the migration period.

2.8  I just completed the identity verification on UW, will I have to do it again on Vinted.?

Yes, you will have to go through a new verification process with Vinted. Your identity verification information will not be moved from United Wardrobe to Vinted.

2.9  How can I unsubscribe from the notifications about users and products that were recently moved to Vinted?

You can turn off app and/or email notifications in Menu > Settings > Notifications

3. Help! I gave my consent but the migration seems incomplete.

3.1  Where can I see what email I gave consent with? 

After you have given consent, you cannot change your email on United Wardrobe anymore but you can check it on your UW profile, in Menu > Settings > My account

If you used the wrong email address, then check 3.2 

3.2  I gave consent in the United Wardrobe app, but my Vinted email is different, now what? 

When you have already consented in the United Wardrobe app, you cannot change your email on United Wardrobe anymore. 

In this case, you will need to update your email address on Vinted to match the email address on United Wardrobe. Once you have updated your Vinted email address and verified it, you are good to go and the transfer will begin!

3.3  I gave consent in the United Wardrobe app, but I cannot verify my email on Vinted.

If you have not yet verified your email on Vinted, you will be automatically prompted by Vinted to do so. You can then either request a verification email to be sent to you, or contact Vinted Customer Support if the email is incorrect.

3.4  The data transfer to Vinted failed, what now?

You have given consent, created and verified a Vinted account more than 3 hours ago but your United Wardrobe data has not yet been moved across?  Can you please check that:

If the transfer is still not happening after that, please contact our UW Support team (via the contact button below). 

3.5  Not all my UW followers have been moved to my Vinted account, why?

They may not have created a Vinted account yet. But don't worry, as soon as they do, Vinted will automatically add them to your followers.

So feel free to send them a quick reminder that you are waiting for them on Vinted. 

3.6  I had favorited a UW item and I cannot find it on my Vinted account, what happened?

This item's seller may not have created a Vinted account yet or moved his/her UW account across. But as soon as this is done, Vinted will automatically list the item in your favorites again. 

You are eager to buy this item on Vinted? Then send a friendly reminder to the seller about moving to Vinted too. 

3.7  My bids got cancelled, what happened?

Have you already started moving your account? Then all the bids you placed or offers you received were automatically cancelled. 

If you have not yet started moving your account to Vinted, then all offers you made but had not yet paid are cancelled as soon as the corresponding sellers move to Vinted. Any offers you received are also automatically cancelled if buyers move their account before paying for their offer.

In any case, don't hesitate to contact the buyer or seller as soon as you have moved to Vinted so you can set up the offer again.
